Pick up and put away any small items they could choke on, cover or hide wiring they might chew, remove any houseplants that are toxic to cats, and check all windows and screens to ensure they’re secure.
Put valuable and tempting objects out of reach.
In their explorations, cats will often leave behind a trail of mess and destruction without a second thought. To minimize the casualties, put away any breakables, collectibles, food items, and cherished belongings within their reach. Don’t forget to check higher up areas like tables, countertops, cabinets, shelves, and furniture, for these items too. You’ll be surprised at the different places where kitties can climb and wriggle themselves into.
Buy and set up essential cat supplies.
Before your cat comes home, you should have everything you need to create a happy and healthy environment for them in place. This includes food, water, food/water bowls, litter, a litter box, litter scooper, cat tree and/or scratch post, toys, special bedding, and grooming tools.
